"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure."
Born in France of Algerian descent, Samia Arslane always knew she wanted to be in fashion (that, and perform as a back-up dancer for Janet Jackson). She got her start attending fashion shows in Paris with her mother, who challenged her to be her best self in everything she endeavored. This philosophy has helped shape the woman she is today.
Samia first moved to California to study graphic design at American InterContinental University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in Visual Communication. In 2005, she joined a team that would launch Genlux magazine, a luxury publication dedicated to the world of high fashion and the people who inspire it. She initially served as its fashion editor, but soon took on the role of Editor in Chief. Genlux has since become one of Southern California’s leading print publications. Samia’s unique depth of experience lends itself to expertise in brand consulting, product launch, and placement. Now in her seventeenth year as editor, she is known in Los Angeles as a true tastemaker, key influencer, brand specialist and one of LA’s most fashionable women.
Samia is also a consummate jetsetter, traveling to Europe several times a year to attend Fashion Week and couture shows, where she finds perpetual inspiration. When it comes to her personal collection of clothing and accessories, she favors storied labels – think Chanel, Alaïa, Ralph & Russo, Alexandre Vauthier. But if you look in her closet you’ll also find Helmut Lang, Rick Owens, Balmain and Alexander Wang, among new and emerging designers. “I like clothes that embrace a woman’s curves, that fit and feel right without trying too hard,” she says. “Those pieces will last forever.”
She also draws inspiration from a long list of strong, talented and forward-thinking people, especially the pioneering women of the world like Coco Chanel, Gloria Steinem, Maya Angelou, Mother Theresa, Malala Yousafzai – but the one she admires most is her mother. Fatima has always been her source of inspiration, energy and love.
As a philanthropist, Samia has dedicated her time and resources to improving the lives of children in the foster care system as a volunteer for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), Los Angeles.
